A verdict in the SBF trial could come before the end of Thursday – on the first anniversary of the CoinDesk scoop that caused his empire to crumble.
Wednesday will bring closing arguments in the criminal fraud case against the founder of FTX, the crypto exchange that collapsed nearly a year ago.
Bankman-Fried’s lawyers argued the jury should be instructed on English law because it governed FTX’s terms of service. “I apply the law of New York,” Judge Lewis Kaplan said.
Wednesday filings by Bankman-Fried’s defense team and the DOJ hint at his possible defense arguments.
The FTX founder will directly appeal to jurors in his bid to prove he did not commit, or conspire to commit, fraud before his crypto juggernaut’s spectacular collapse.
The defense intends to call Joseph Pimbley, a financial services expert and consultant, to testify about FTX’s and Alameda’s financials.
The parties to the criminal fraud trial expect to wrap up witness testimony in the coming weeks.
“This is a joke,” the judge told the attorneys after a bizarre bit of testimony.
